3. Ministry of Serving-Healing This
area probably provides the most opportunities for involvement. As the
title suggests, it means reaching out to those who are in need.
Through you and me, these people may come to know Jesus. The parish
organizations that are primarily service oriented are: A.
Beginning Experience- (For those who are newly single either through
divorce or death of a spouse) This is a ministry to the lonely that is
carried out by a trained team of volunteers. Their work is done at
special weekend gatherings which encourage participants to share, to
deal with their grief, to begin to experience healing and to have the
courage to begin again. Contact the parish office for the current
contact information, 778-3122. B. Catholic
Childhood Circle- This organization's primary goal is to raise funds
and support the foster care program for children. They also supply
layettes for babies who are in need. They sell calendars and each year
sponsor a bazaar. Please call the Parish office for information,
778-3122. C.
Funeral Meals- Parishioners volunteer to bring food to funeral
receptions. We have teams of dedicated women who put on the reception,
but they need the food donated. This is an easy way to help out. This
is one of the most touching and caring ministries that we provide.
People are always most grateful. Contact Eileen Niven at the parish
office, 778-3122. D. Nursing Home Ministry-
These men and women go to the nursing homes in the parish. There are 2
within our parish boundaries. One week the lead the residents in the
Rosary, and the next week they help bring people to a central location
where Father offers Mass. It's the personal touch that makes this
ministry so rewarding. Call Eileen at the parish office, 778-3122. E.
St. Vincent de Paul- The parish receives many calls each day from
those looking for help- for food, clothing, rent, utilities, etc.
These people go out in pairs and call on the clients to ascertain
their real needs and how St. Vincent's can best help them. You would
be surprised how many are helped each year through your St. Vincent de
Paul contributions. The food bank and the clothing bank are part of
St. Vincent's too. Contact the parish office for the current
president, Sr. Rachel Kiefer. 778-3122. F. Volunteer Chore Service-
Many older people have jobs around the house they can no longer do.
With the help of a chore service person, these jobs are taken care of
and the people can continue to stay in their own homes. The jobs might
be yard work, cleaning, respite care, so someone can get out and have
a break from care-giving, or even just visiting with the home bound.
Can take as much or as little time as you desire. You are matched to a
client whose needs you would like to fill. Contact Catholic Community
Services, (425)257-2111 G. Volunteer Office
Workers- We have office workers 4 days a week to the parish office to
help with assorted jobs. Without these helpers many mailings, flyers,
etc., would not get done. No skill required, we train. Contact Colleen
Lemeshko, 778-3122. H. Outreach Ministry- This is a
developing ministry which includes parish nurses, grief support and availability of
a staff psychologist. See the bulletin
for contact numbers or call the office, 778-3122. I.
Home Bound/Hospital Ministry- At least once per week a team of
ministers brings the Eucharist for people confined at home or in the
hospital. Special training is provided for this ministry. Contact
Eileen Niven, 778-3122. J. Other Projects- There
are various other projects going on in the parish. Migrant project
provides clothing, toys, books, etc. to migrant families in the Spring
and Summer. Sandwich makers make sandwiches for people at the Lazarus
Center in Seattle.
Clothing in good and clean condition is collected and available to
parishioners or given to a variety of shelters. Easter Basket Project,
Giving Tree, Lenten projects, etc. also are regular activities in the
parish. <---Back
